At the City Council meeting on October 2, 2023, Manvel City Council approved an ordinance to increase the water and sewer rates beginning on November 1, 2023. Under this ordinance, water and sewer rates for Manvel Utility customers will rise in order to cover the increase in infrastructure maintenance and service costs. Effective November 1, 2023, the City of Manvel will be implementing a rate increase for our utility services. This adjustment is necessary to support the ongoing improvements to our water infrastructure, ensure the reliability of our supply, and meet the growing demands of our community.
The increase will affect both the base rate and the volumetric rate:
Base Rate: There will be a 14.9% increase in the base rate of your water bill. This is the flat fee that covers essential costs, such as maintenance and administrative expenses. The base rate covers the first 2,000 gallons of water used in a month.
Volumetric Rate: The volumetric rate, which is based on the amount of water you use in excess of the base 2,000 gallons, will increase by 28.5%. This means that for each additional 1,000 gallons of water consumed beyond the initial 2,000 gallons.
The new residential base rate charge for water service will be $32.59 and the new residential base rate charge for sewer service will be $39.10. This translates to an increase of $4.23 per month on resident’s water bill and $5.07 on their sewer bill from the current rates.
The new commercial base rate charge for water service will be $39.10 and the new residential base rate charge for sewer service will be $45.63. This translates to an increase of $5.07 per month on commercial water bills and $5.92 on their sewer bills from the current rates.
The new volumetric rate will be $3.34 for every 1,000 gallons over the base rate for both residential and commercial service. This translates to an increase of $0.74 from the current rate.
